Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups self-rising flour
- 1 ½ tsp sugar
- 2 cups buttermilk (cold)
- 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Prep the Baking Pan: Pour the melted butter directly into the bottom of an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish (line with foil or parchment paper if preferred for easy cleanup).
- Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour and sugar. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir with a spoon or spatula just until a soft, wet dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Add to the Pan: Transfer the dough straight into the baking dish, right on top of the melted butter. Spread it evenly to the edges using a spatula.
- Score the Biscuits: Using a butter knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 9 squares before baking (the butter will flow into the cuts).
- Bake: Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden brown and the butter is fully absorbed around the edges.
- Serve: Let sit for 5 minutes to absorb any remaining butter, re-cut along the score lines, and serve warm.
