PEOPLE THOUGHT THIS WAS A NORMAL HEADSTONE… UNTIL THEY READ THE FIRST LETTERS

At first glance, this looks like a completely ordinary memorial.

The message is emotional and respectful:

“Forever in our hearts
Until we meet again
Cherished memories
Known as
Our son, brother
Father, Papa, Uncle
Friend & cousin.”

But then someone noticed something hidden in plain sight. 👀

🔎 LOOK AT THE FIRST LETTER OF EACH LINE

Take the first letter of every line and read them from top to bottom:

F — Forever
U — Until
C — Cherished
K — Known
O — Our
F — Father
F — Friend

Together, they spell:

“F* OFF”**

It wasn’t an accident.

The headstone belonged to Steven Paul Owens, an Iowa man who died in September 2021 at the age of 59. His family deliberately designed the inscription as a hidden joke that reflected his personality and sense of humor. East Idaho News

❤️ WHY WOULD A FAMILY PUT THAT ON A GRAVESTONE?

According to Owens’ children, their father was known for using the phrase jokingly with friends and family.

His daughter explained that when he told someone to “f*** off,” it could actually mean that he liked them. His son also described him as fun-loving and someone who could easily be “fired up” in a playful way. East Idaho News

So for the family, the hidden message wasn’t intended as an insult.

It was their personal way of remembering their dad exactly as he was.

😡 BUT THE CEMETERY WAS NOT AMUSED

The controversy began when cemetery officials objected to the hidden profanity.

The family said the cemetery trustees had rejected the design before installation, but the monument was ultimately installed anyway in May 2022.

Officials argued that profanity had no place in a shared cemetery and discussed possible action to have the headstone removed. East Idaho News

The family, however, defended the memorial.

Their argument was simple:

It was their father. They knew his personality. And they wanted his final memorial to reflect him—not someone else’s idea of how he should be remembered.

🤔 WOULD YOU KEEP IT OR REMOVE IT?

That’s what makes this story so controversial.

Some people see the inscription as disrespectful and inappropriate for a cemetery.

Others see it as a personal family joke and a touching tribute to someone’s real personality.

And the cleverest part?

Most people could walk past the headstone without ever noticing the hidden message.

You have to read between the lines. 👀

💬 WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Would you find this funny if it were your family member’s final tribute—or do you think certain words should never appear on a gravestone?
