The object in the photo appears to be a large mass of amphibian eggs, most likely frogspawn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frog eggs are surrounded by a transparent, jelly-like substance. Each tiny dark spot is a developing embryo, and when many eggs are laid together, they can form surprisingly large clusters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tiny embryos don’t stay eggs forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they develop, they eventually hatch into tadpoles<\/strong>. At first, the tadpoles are completely aquatic and use gills to breathe underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No. A mass like this is not a mysterious monster or dangerous underwater creature<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the exact species cannot be confirmed from this photograph alone. Different frogs and other amphibians can produce egg masses with different shapes and arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you find something similar in a natural pond, it’s best not to touch, move, or remove it<\/strong>. Amphibian eggs are delicate, and moving them between ponds can also spread diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
