What looks like snow covering the ground is actually a thick layer of hailstones<\/strong> that fell during an intense thunderstorm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photographs show hundreds of pieces of ice scattered across roads, grass and gardens, with some stones appearing unusually large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf29\ufe0f HOW CAN HAIL BECOME THIS LARGE?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hail forms high inside powerful thunderstorms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong rising air currents can keep small ice particles suspended inside the storm. As they move through areas containing supercooled water droplets, additional layers of ice freeze onto them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stronger the updraft, the longer the hail can remain inside the storm\u2014and the larger the hailstone can become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually, gravity wins and the accumulated ice falls toward the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a storm produces a huge amount of hail in just a few minutes, the stones can accumulate faster than they can melt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result can be spectacular: lawns, roads and gardens may suddenly appear to be covered in a layer of white ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some hailstorms can even leave several centimeters of hail on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
