In April 1983, a newborn in New Jersey made headlines for a reason almost impossible to believe: he weighed 16 pounds 6 ounces — about 7.43 kilograms — at birth.

His name was Kevin Robert Clark, and contemporary reports confirm that he was born on April 8, 1983, at Community Memorial Hospital in Toms River, New Jersey. He measured about 25 inches (63.5 cm) long and was delivered by Caesarean section. Upi

🍼 A newborn too big for the usual baby equipment

Kevin was reportedly so large that he didn’t fit comfortably in the hospital’s standard bassinet and was placed in a crib instead. His extraordinary size quickly attracted local and national media attention.

Importantly, the original 1983 reporting did not describe him as the world’s heaviest baby. Hospital officials said his birth appeared to be a local record, while contemporary reports noted that heavier babies had been recorded elsewhere. Upi

📏 He kept growing

Kevin’s unusual size didn’t end at birth.

By adulthood, he had reached approximately 6 feet 9 inches (206 cm) and weighed around 300 pounds (136 kg). Inside Edition reported in 2019 that he wore size 17 shoes and often had to duck under doorways. Inside Edition

His height also created everyday challenges: showerheads could be too low, cars could feel cramped, and people frequently stopped him in public to ask how tall he was. Rather than being offended, Kevin reportedly learned to joke about it.

😲 From famous baby to unusually tall adult

The remarkable part of Kevin’s story isn’t simply his birth weight. It’s that the baby who attracted headlines in 1983 remained exceptionally tall decades later.

When Inside Edition interviewed him at age 35, Kevin described the constant attention with humor. His story had become less about being a “giant baby” and more about learning to live comfortably with an unusual physical characteristic. Inside Edition

⚠️ One important correction about the viral caption

The Facebook image says “7 kilograms” and “40 years old.” The underlying story is real, but the numbers are simplified.

The original birth record reported 16 lb 6 oz, approximately 7.43 kg, not exactly 7 kg. And Kevin was 40 years old in 2023, not today. Since he was born on April 8, 1983, he is 43 years old in 2026. Upi

So the viral post is based on a genuine and extraordinary birth story, but the wording “the biggest baby in the world” is misleading. Contemporary reporting specifically said it was not a Guinness world record. Upi

🤯 The baby who couldn’t fit a bassinet grew into a 6’9″ man

Kevin Clark’s birth was extraordinary enough to make newspapers and television reports in 1983. More than four decades later, his story continues to circulate online because his adult height remained remarkable.

Sometimes the viral story is real — but the internet changes the details along the way.
